John Alexander Dowie was a pioneer in healing ministry. It was him who inspired John G Lake to devote his life to healing. Around this time in the early 1900’s God started to pour out His Spirit in many different ways. Charles Parham received the baptism of the Spirit and started teaching it. Through his ministry William Seymour received the baptism of the Spirit. Shortly after, the Azusa street revival started where God started pouring out His Spirit in such a glory that limbs were growing back and a cloud of glory was visible every service. Also around this time, God raised up a woman named Maria Woodworth Etter who would minister and God’s glory would fall on whole towns. During one of her tent revivals, people in a bar down the street got slain in the Spirit and gave their lives to Jesus. She also would fall into trances where she would be still for an hour in the middle of preaching and have visions. During her ministry, John Alexander Dowie, started condemning Maria Woodworth Etter, saying she wasn’t from God and he along with Parham started criticizing the Azusa Street revival as being demonic and not from God. Right now, As God is pouring out manifold grace upon His people, we are going to see even crazier expressions of His glory and the Spirit move in different ministries in different ways. We need to be careful not to make the same mistakes and keep it about Jesus.

A few years ago, I opened my bible in my morning devotionals and a flake of gold on a passage caught my eye, as I read it, I felt the presence of God wash over me, giving me a foundational revelation to the word. The passage was Acts 9:31 Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. We can see that the Church in the book of acts grew in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t one or the other but both. Often, we find that the truth is in the tension of two truths. We need both. With the fear of the Lord and comfort of His Spirit, It’s like electricity. We enjoy having our lights on at night, having our phones charged and our lives are enhanced and managed by the comfort of electricity. Yet, no one wants to bite the power line and only babies want to stick a fork in a plug in. In the same way, God is more loving, patient, and kind than any human being. His love transforms us, His Presence is peace. Everything we need to illuminate our souls with truth and refresh us is found in Him. He is the greatest comforter we could ever know. Yet, it would be very stupid to fight against Him. That is a war we cannot win. God is all powerful. He spoke the world into existence. The fear of the Lord should be that sobering reality that we never want to become His enemy. The book of James says a friendship with the world makes us an enemy against God (James 4:4). The fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Spirit are guardrails to keep us walking that straight and narrow path. We need both. When you have the fear of the Lord but not the comfort of the Spirit, your walk with the Lord is like you’re walking on eggshells. You are in constant condemnation and fear of losing your salvation, and you don’t have peace. Most often, it will produce legalism in a believers life. When you have the comfort of the Spirit without the fear of the Lord, you end up trading His comfort for the comforts of the flesh and compromise replaces surrender. In this place, you easily take advantage of His grace searing your conscience in the process. When the fear of the Lord is missing, the Bible becomes subjective and we can easily dismiss passages that disagree with us. With my walk with the Lord, I am comforted by His love and live from the peace in His Presence. He is my everything and my walk with Him is not walking on eggshells, I don’t live in constant fear but I am empowered by His love and secure in Him. I also will not take advantage of His grace by using it to justify things He blatantly is against. With that, I have a reverence for His Presence and His Word treating it as Holy and Precious. I keep my heart open to His correction and posture my heart to obey what He says.

Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. While I believe that we are secure in relationship with Jesus, there are many who believe in Jesus, who call Him Lord and even do signs and wonders in His name that will be faced with that hard statement, “I never knew you, depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.” Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Unbelievers will not call Jesus Lord. Unbelievers will not prophesy, cast out demons, and do miracles in the name of Jesus. This is talking about those who believe. Lets take a deeper look at practicing lawlessness, 1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. According to 1st John 3:4, practicing lawlessness means making a practice of sin. So when Jesus says depart from me, he is talking about those who make a practice of sin bringing a few other verses into light. Ephesians 5:5-6 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. What this verse shows that choosing to hold onto sin in our lives can actually block us from receiving the inheritance of the Kingdom, and reveals that this is an area you can be deceived. What is our inheritance? Jesus is coming back to restore all things, He is coming back to reign, our inheritance is Salvation as well as rewards and position in the coming Kingdom. This is “That day” Jesus is referring to in Matthew 7:22 Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. It is also important to note that He who endures to the end shall be saved (Matt 10:22, 24:13, Mark 13:13) Now lets go back to Matthew 7, right after he saids “Depart from me, I never knew you, you who practice lawlessness.” It says “Therefore” Matthew 7:24 -26 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” So, in context of not everyone says to me Lord Lord, He says therefore and talks about hearing and doing contrasted with hearing and not doing. In other words, obedience. If you believe in Jesus you will obey His words and that will produce action in you life. This is a common theme, as Jesus also said John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— And again, John 14:23 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. If you love God, be obedient to His word. If you say you love God yet are making a practice of sin in your life, then there is no eternal security for you. Understand it is in relationship with Jesus that we are saved as we see in John 17:3. That relationship produces holiness in our lives and purifies our heart. It is in abiding in Him, we have security. John 15:6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. Just as the parable of the Sower shows, there are different kinds of soil in mans heart, there are those who believe for a season, then trails come and they fall away and there are those who start to grow but the cares of this world and deceitfulness of riches choke them from becoming fruitful, this shows that though a seed is planted, they can walk away from it. (Matt 13:1-9, 19-23) We will do well to head the warnings in scripture, 1 Peter 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. And Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? We can fall short of grace through bitterness or immorality Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; 16 lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. 17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears. In conclusion, our security is in Christ. It is in relationship with Him that we obtain salvation. If we say we believe in Him yet use His grace as a cloak for sin, He’s going to say depart from me, you who practice lawlessness, I never knew you. Relationship with Jesus requires obedience to what He says. John 15:14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. Now I also believe there is a difference between those who are struggling and those who are practicing. Those who are practicing are in agreement with their sin, those who are struggling are fighting against their sin. One thing I love about Jesus is He will pull you out of any mess you find yourself in but He will never give you an ok to stay there. Also have faith His ability to keep you is greater than your ability to stumble and miss it.

A voice from another world From the beginning of Genesis we learn something important about God; He is the God who SPEAKS. He spoke the the universe into existence. He spoke light into the darkness. He spoke then, and in His unchanging nature, He still speaks today. One of the most important things for every Believer is hearing God’s voice. In my opinion, this is becoming more and more important as the days go by, and will even become a matter of life and death in the future. I would assert that this is ‘super important’ for anyone called as a leader within God’s Kingdom, because the days ahead will require leadership by humbly following His voice in everything! In my travels, I meet many Believers who say they cant hear God. Often they will line up hoping for a prophetic word from their pastor or a guest speaker, with their phone in hand ready to record what is spoken. This is not a bad thing. In fact, quite the opposite in my view! It is good to be wanting to hear from God! However, there is a dangerous mistake in any church culture where we don’t understand that God speaks and every Believer is able to hear Him! John 10:27’ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me’ If you are a follower of Jesus, you are one of His ’sheep’. His sheep HEAR HIS VOICE and FOLLOW HIM. When we say we cant hear Him, we are contradicting His own words! Our Heavenly Father SPEAKS, and we were created to HEAR HIS VOICE. Elijah was a prophet. God used Him in some remarkable ways. After the fire fell on Mt Carmel Elijah was facing some vicious threats from Jezebel, so he went into the wilderness and God spoke to Him there 1Kings 19:11-12’ And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a STILL SMALL VOICE’ God’s voice was not found in the strong wind; nor in the earthquake; nor in the fire. But after the noise and impact of these things, Elijah heard a still small voice. On this occasion, God’s voice wasn’t loud and dramatic, it was quiet and small! Living in 2023, we are surrounded by ‘voices’ that are constantly shouting. Problems; financial pressures; work demands; social media; advertising; our inward drive to ‘prove ourselves’; the contemporary religious ‘machine’… all these things shout at us, demanding our time and attention. In the cacophony how would we hear a still small voice? Matthew 4:4‘ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’ My friend, God speaks. We just have to make time to listen. God speaks, and by hearing Him we LIVE Life is busy and the demands on us are loud and intrusive. In the midst of all that, make time to TURN DOWN THE VOLUME. Find a space in your day to stop and listen. Stop speaking and listen. Stop worrying and listen. Stop trying to convince God to do your will, and listen. Stop trying to convince Him to bless your plans, and listen. Stop choosing the topic, and listen. STOP and LISTEN. In the ‘dangerous’ silent place, you might hear a voice from another world Kristen PS My secret prayer for you is summed up in this verse Jeremiah 23:21-22’ I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message; I did not speak to them, yet they have prophesied. But if they had stood in my council, they would have proclaimed my words to my people and would have turned them from their evil ways and from their evil deeds’ ‘My council’ refers to a place of intimacy with God. A place of relationship with Him in which you become someone who hears His secrets. From that place, forged by hours of prayer and waiting on Him, will emerge a humble prophetic church speaking His words of life, bringing repentance and salvation and liberation to a lost, hurting and bound up world. I pray you will have a burning desire to find your way to this place, and that the Holy Spirit will take you by the hand and ‘guide you into all truth’

Back in 2020, before the election, the Lord put a word on my heart about a reformation in the prophetic ministry where He was going to refine the prophetic ministry and a marking factor was repentance and turning people from their sin. Around that time, the prophetic movement was saturated in fluffy words of grandeur and assurance of Trumps victory. Being in supernatural ministry for the last decade, I have seen the prophetic culture of the Church watered down with Christianeeze and muddy with selfish ambition and flattery. Because of immaturity, guardrails such as “don’t address sin, just prophesy the opposite” were put taught in many churches to protect people from being offended. Then after the election, a humbling blow took place. Biden was elected and the echo chamber of prophetic words fell to the ground as many of the mainstream prophetic voices lost their influence and slipped in the background. Shortly after that, this deliverance revival started to explode. A desperation and hunger to get set free and others set free is challenging and changing the expression of the Church. With deliverance, the need for repentance and the fear of the Lord are being realized to a greater degree and the Gospel is being presented as All In. The Lord is changing the epression of Christianity on the earth. With this, I believe the word I received in 2020 about the prophetic reformation is starting to take place. When you are doing deliverance, the ability to see what caused the person to be bound and address it has become a needed gift. The prophetic anointing paired with discerning of spirits are necessary for the Church and are powerful tools to help believers be set free. The Lord is removing the guardrails that stunted the maturity of the prophetic as well as bringing a greater accountability to judge words and help believers grow in a greater maturity. I believe that we are going to see many prophetic voices rise up with authority and the marking signs will be undeniable accuracy, repentance and deliverance. Jeremiah 23:22 But if they had stood in My counsel, And had caused My people to hear My words, Then they would have turned them from their evil way And from the evil of their doings. Jeremiah 23:28 “The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the Lord. 29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
